Services Offered |
Emergency Service: In the event of an emergency condition, the County Road Department has six persons available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Clearing Right of Ways: The Road Department cuts dead trees on county road right of way, cuts brush with boom mower back to the fence and then shreds debris using a brush chipper. The county mows the right of way approximately three (3) times per year. With the aid of the solid waste district, security fencing is constructed to deter illegal dumping. Please report illegal dump sites to the road department.
Bridge Maintenance: County bridges are inspected by the State with corrective/follow-up action taken by the county. The State is responsible for decisions on weight limits and the county posts weight limit signs accordingly.
Road Maintenance: The Road Department maintains roads and right of ways, for "county" gravel, chip seal and asphalt roads. County roads are signed with a green road name sign. Roads not maintained by the County, "non-county" roads are signed with a red road name sign. To confirm the status of a road as county or non-county, please contact the road department.

Frequently Asked Questions |
Q. How do I bring a local (non-county) residential road into the County system?
A. County Ordinance 94-19 states that if local (non-county) residential roads meet certain standards the property owners may pay for the cost of the materials and equipment to build the road to County specifications. A new road must be designed by the developer and constructed to meet county road standards.
Q. What can be done to maintain unimproved county roads?
A. The county maintains unimproved roads with a motor grader; and maintains a crown in the roads so water will not collect in road but flow to the ditch line. The road department maintains these roads by placing state approved Class #7 rock on roads lasting 3-5 years before replacement is required.
